Epic Games has revealed a new ranked game mode coming to Fortnite, bringing new advancements and rewards. Part of the reason Fortnite has been successful over the past few years is how often the experience has evolved. While the core gameplay remains largely the same, Epic Games continues to infuse it with new content, map updates, and special limited-time events. Combined, these changes help keep Fortnite feeling fresh and motivate players to keep logging in day after day.
Although the current Season 3 of Fortnite is still new, many players are anticipating what will happen next. While Epic continues to keep its long-term plans under wraps, many Fortnite leakers have begun speculating that the current chapter could end in the next few months. In the meantime, however, it appears there’s more on the horizon, including a brand new ranked mode that was just announced.
The news comes from Epic Games, confirming that a brand new ranked mode is coming to Fortnite in the 24.40 update. Both Battle Royale and Zero Build will have a ranked option that can be enabled when playing Solo, Duo, and Squad for Battle Royale and Duo for Zero Build. The system allows players to progress through a new tier system, including Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Its debut will also mark the start of Ranked Season Zero, which will run until the end of Chapter 4 Season 3. Players only need to participate in a ranked match to reveal their starting level.
When Ranked Mode is enabled, solo Fortnite players will be matched against similarly ranked players, while Duos and Squads will have teams ranked equal to their highest-ranked teammates. Rankings will have a progress bar that can move up and down based on player performance, including the number of eliminations in a match, with eliminations being more important later in the match than at the beginning. The overall match schedule also plays a role in the meter’s progress or decline and the standings of those eliminated.
Those who participate in the new experience will also be able to earn unique seasonal rewards. After jumping off the Battle Bus in a Ranked Match, players will receive a new Ranked Urgent Mission to complete within that session. Completing them during matches unlocks new seasonal cosmetic rewards, the last of which is a special Burn Bright Emote that reveals the player’s current ranked color. Finally, for those wondering, this news does also confirm the end of Fortnite’s arena road, which Epic Games plans to stop with update 24.40.
Fortnite is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
